This isn't really a role play, but it is a story i have created, i will show a new chapter every once in a while.

if you want to post a comment go to the topic "Diadem's Diamond comments"

So here the story goes

Chapter 1: The dream and note.

It was a normal day at the mall going to Game Stop. I went to the store and bought me a game. I was excited at the moment but then…. someone with red eyes or something snatched it from me. I wanted it back so I followed him. I followed not too far but ended out in this little dump area at the back of the mall. The guy I saw jumped over a wall. I of course, couldn’t do that, so I decided to climb it. But as I was climbing it, something in the wall flashed. All of a sudden, a big yellow diamond up in the sky appears right in front of me. And then….FLASH!
Arrrggghhh!" I started to breath heavily after i woke up. It was hard to see anything because the window is diagnal from me and the sun brightly shone in my eyes. I blocked my face, and the wind blew. I turned my head to the clock and saw it was 8:30! I yelled. I was 20 minutes late to school! So I went straight downstairs, grabbed some food and ran out, but my mom stopped me. “Max,” she said. “Where are you going?” “I’m going to school! I’m late!” I shouted then I ran right out the door, this time, with no one stopping me. I knew I missed the bus so I grabbed out my bike from the garage. I moved it out of the garage then started riding.
As I was riding, it was pretty quiet…. Hopefully I’ll get to school before its WAY to late, I thought. As I looked up at the sky, I heard a sound. It was the sound you hear when a car is out of control, and that’s just what it was. A car started going wild and headed for me. I jumped out of the way and fell to the floor on the grass. My bike was crushed.
“My bike!!!!” I shouted. Then when I looked up, it was the same guy from my dream. And as my hands were on the floor, I didn’t realize this but this diamond thing sucked right into my hand. What’s going on here!? I’m probably just hulicinating…like there is no way that’s from my dream! I thought still not knowing about the diamond. After that, I walked to school. As I entered the building, I rushed straight to my class without unpacking a thing. As I ran into the door the teacher, Mrs. George, stopped me. “You’re late!” she yelled. Everyone in the class started giggling. “Sorry, I overslept, then a guy almost ran me over crushing my bike.”
Everyone laughed again. “You like jokes eh? Well how about 2 days detention for you!” “Bu— “NO BUTS!” she interrupted. “You know, now I’ll make it 3 days, how’s that? I didn’t dare speak after that. In our school, if we get detention, that means you have to stay overnight there and do something there when other people are in class. James Connor Middle School is really tough. The teacher walked me down to the detention room. “Sit there!” she said as she pointed to a desk. I sat down, and she started to walk off.
“Oh and before I go, I’ll let you have 2 hours of talking, just for today, just don’t make it too loud!” she said then left. I noticed there were 2 boys next to me, about the age of 14, same age as me. “So…what are you here for?” one asked. “Being late…what about you?” “Wait let me finish—“ what was your excuse?” the 2nd boy asked. I said let me finish Ben!” the first one shouted. “Sorry Brian,” Ben said. “Anyways, now you know our names, what’s yours?” Brian asked. “My name is Max, Max Conway.” “So Max, how old are you? I haven’t seen you around here, we’re 14 in 8th grade.” “I am too,” I said. “Well ok then, Ben you can speak.” “Thank you Brian” he said. “Anyways, as I was saying, what’s your excuse?” he asked. “Mine was no excuse, I was riding on my bike to school when a guy with red eyes started heading straight for me. I jumped out of the way, but he crushed my bike. And also, you know what’s crazier? The guy with red eyes was the same one in my dream.”
“Dude, are you mental or something, because that’s impossible,” said Brian. “No offense, but I think he could be telling the truth Brian,” said Ben. “I’m saying no one makes up that kind of story right?” “I guess, Brian said in a groaning way, annoyed. You two are brothers aren’t you?” I asked. “Unfortunatly, yes,” said Ben in a harsh way. “How’s this?” Brian said. “We give you 1 week to show us anything strange, but if you don’t get any proof, we’ll send you off to the Mental Institute. Got it?” I nodded, frightened of not being able to show them.
After the days of detention passed, Brian and Ben came to my house. “What a dump,” Brian said as I showed him my room. “Yeah, I know. At least we’re out of detention.” “Yeah,” Ben agreed. “You know, if this is a search, shouldn’t we go in the woods?” suggested Brian. “What!?! No way!!!!” I shouted at them as loud as I could. “Ok then, where do you want to look then!” Brian shouted back at me angry as his face turned red as an apple. “How about…the attic!?” Ben said. “Ok fine,” I said. “Oh that’s smart,” Brain said sarcastically. Ben ignored the joke his brother made. “Follow me, I’ll show you the attic,” and I did. As we entered the attic, books were piled everywhere. “What should we look for?” I asked. “Well in the movies, you would look for an odd book relating to something you saw,” Brian said intelligently.
Ben grabbed a book then threw it at me. “Does that sound anything similar?” he asked. I looked at the cover. I noticed it had a big yellow diamond on the cover, same as the one in my dream. “Diadem’s Diamond…” I said. I opened a page. In the page I noticed a post-it. “The woods,” I said reading the post-it. “Ha! Told you Max!” Brian said laughing in my face. “Wait…this is the same diamond from my dream.” “I have to keep reading!” I said. I turned a page. Blank. “What the…? Blank pages?” I turned some more. Blank. Then I flipped to the back of the book. “I’m going to get you Max!!!!” It said in bloody letters! I dropped the book. Then passed out. “Max!” Ben shouted, but I was already unconscious. After about 10 minutes, I woke up in my room.
“Max! What happened back there!?” Shouted Brian right in my face. “It….it…said…” I couldn’t finish the sentence I was to frightened. “What did it say!?” demanded Ben. “Look.” Then I noticed the book was right next to me. “What the—Brian swore. He opened the book. “Last page,” I said. He flipped to the last page. “I’m going to get you Max!!!!” he read in his mind. He noticed the words were written in blood. Brian was still in fear. Ben took a look too. After that, both of them were as frozen as a statue.
Finally, Brian broke his silence and spoke. “Max….I’m sorry…you aren’t crazy….” said Brian. I couldn’t tell but it looked like he was crying of fear. Ben was the next to speak. “Wha…what should we do?” he asked. “I might still be crazy when I say this..but we have to go to the woods.” “You’re not really…” Brian said trying to make a joke out of it, but he knew I wasn’t lying. “Do you think we should tell anyone first?” asked Ben. “Well what do you think?” I said. “No one is going to believe us, and even if they did, they would be in danger, the less people who know this, the better.”
“That sounded like it was from a movie,” Brian said suspisously. “So what? It might be from a movie, but it is still true,” I said. “Beep! Beep!” went my alarm clock. “Oh god, school starts in 10 minutes! And I don’t have a bike!” “You can ride back on mine,” Ben said. Being embarrassed of doing so, I knew it was the only way to get to school on time.
“Alright fine, but don’t do anything weird ok?” “Why would I?” he asked and we left. This time, we had no trouble to getting at school on time. And this time, none of us were late. “What class you got?” Brian asked. “I have science first, and I’m guessing you don’t. “Actually Brian and I had to switch classes because of that last detention, which was failing everything we got in Math, so we switched to Science,” Ben said delighted of being in the same class as me.
“Bring!” the bell went. “Guess that’s our cue to leave,” said Brian. “We’re in the same class, what are you talking about?” I asked. “You don’t want the bully to beat you up on your way right?” Ben asked. Then Ben and Brian ran off. “What bully?” I asked but they were already gone. “This bully,” someone said. I turned around. “Oh great, Terrance!” I thought. “Give me your money or else kid!” Terrance said. I wanted to correct him that we were the same age, but I didn’t have the guts to stand up to the bully.
“I…I don’t have any money” I said frightened. He pushed me. “Well you better get some or else!” Then out of no where, I bursted out. “LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!” and I pushed him so hard he flew all the way back to the end of the hallway. Then my hands flashed. “AAAAGGGGGH!!!” I shouted. My hands were like on fire. And that’s when I noticed it, the lines on my palm were shaped like a diamond. “Wha..what the hell is going on!” I thought in my mind. I knew if I swore out loud, I would be even in more trouble than I already was.
I noticed Terrance was still knocked out, so I ran to my class hoping to not get in trouble. I entered the classroom with everyone reading. The teacher, Mrs. George wasn’t here yet, or was doing something and told the kids to read to pass the time. She usually does these kinds of things.
I sat down and found myself right in the middle between Brian and Ben. I thought that would be good, but since they fail a lot and were my friends, I was sure they wanted to look off my answers and stay, hoping that I would get them right. “Guys,” I whispered, making sure no one would here our conversation.
“What?” Brian whispered back. “You should’ve seen what I did to Terrance, I knocked him out.” “YOU KNOCKED TERRANCE OUT!?” Ben shouted so that everyone heard. Everyone looked at me. “Guys, it was an accident. I just bursted and pushed him. Then he flew all the way to the end of the hall way, becoming unconscious. After that, my hands started flashing or something, and it felt like I was being burned. But then, I noticed this.”
I showed Brian and Ben the palm of my hand. “What the heck?” Brian said. “Your palm…is shaped like a diamond…..?” Ben said trying to finish his sentence. “I know, but I don’t know when it could’ve happened…” “It doesn’t matter, we have to get to the woods,” Ben said. “It wont matter,” replied Brian. “We still don’t know what we’re doing, this makes no sense, and also, even if we did find something in the woods, what would happen? We could only be doing something bad.”
“But if someone is going to get me, we have to stop him, I’m saying, that makes sense right?” “Still….” The teacher then came in the room. “Sorry I’m late class, a kid named Terrance was found at the end of the hallway bleeding like crazy, so I took him to the nurse, he’s going to the hospital.”
I felt really bad then. How could I do something like that? I thought. Just knowing that I did something bad makes me feel so frightened. I then raised my hand. “Yes Max?” she asked. “Do you know who did this?” I asked. “He said he couldn’t remember the accident, but we figure he just might’ve hit himself, or he was holding something and it cut him. There was no way it could be a person though, unless they were super strong, which of course, is impossible.”
Everything Mrs. George said was wrong. A human did cause this to happen, what made it worse, it was me. After that, recess came. Most people in 7th and 8th grade don’t have recess, but we had a debate a while back, and recess existed for 7th and 8th graders. Then someone tapped me on the back. I turned around. I hoped it to be Ben and Brian but I forgot they had some homework to catch up on, so they were inside, but it wasn’t them. It was Terrance.
“You’re lucky kid, I didn’t tell on you,” he said. I wasn’t really afraid of him since he didn’t sound so violent right now, so I bothered to ask, “Why?” “Well what do you think? A kid who could push me that far is somewhat strong, and I couldn’t have someone like that get in trouble because then you would probably come and beat me up.” At first I was confused of what he said, but then I realized. He was afraid of me! Which was sort of a good thing, but I still felt bad of what I did. “I thought you had to get stitches in the hospital.” “I do, but they couldn’t get me an appointment until a couple of days from now.” “So are you going to keep bullying people after what happened?” I asked. “No way, because if I attacked your friend, you would probably beat me up,” he said. “Yeah,” I said. And right there, again, I said something mean and odd.
Terrance then left and recess was over. After that, the day was pretty normal. Ben and Brian’s parents didn’t really care where they went off to, so Brian and Ben walked home with me. It was strange, I wasn’t sure if I was really friends with them or not, Ben was a goof kid, and Brian just seemed depressed. We were quiet on the way home, probably scared of having to go in the woods.
When we got to my house, my mom was right in front of me, looking angry. “Where were you? You were suppose to be here 20 minutes ago!” she shouted. “I was walking with Brian and Ben, my friends, and since they are on a different bus, they can’t go on my bus, it’s the rule of the school ok?” My mom was the only person on earth I could stand up to, my dad was tough, so I always listened to him.
“Fine. But remember, HOMEWORK FIRST!!!!!!” she shouted. My friends chuckled. I was sort of embarrassed. “Ok fine, come on guys, let’s go in my room and get this over with,” I said. “Fine,” Brian said annoyed. “I hate homework,” whined Ben. “Look, the faster we get this done with, the faster we can start looking, got it?” Ben and Brian nodded.
We then went upstairs and started our homework. “What kind of homework you got?” I asked. “Well, really none, but we got some in Science and Math. We finished English, Spanish, and Social Studies at school while we were in for recess,” said Ben. “Lucky, I have English, Science, and Math.” “Ben and I could help you with English,” suggested Brian. “Ok then.”
About after 2 hours, we finally finished. “Max!!!” my mom shouted from downstairs. “What?!” I asked. “Ben and Brian’s parents are on the phone, they want them to come home.” “Damn, we’ll go tomorrow ok?” I said. And there it went again, I swore! I have never done that in my life until now. Something was up. “No way, we’re going tonight, meet in the back of your woods when your mom goes to sleep….how about 10:30 PM perhaps?” said Brian. I didn’t feel good about doing this, but I was impatient of waiting just as much as them.
“Alright sure, my mom goes to sleep around 10:00 so 10:30 is good.” “Good, I like you kid, you’re a lot better than the other kids we’ve met,” said Ben. I could imagine what they meant by that, these kids were different from others. But at least I wasn’t alone in this mystery. 10:30, I thought. And 10:30 it is.

Chapter 2: The bite

It was 9:30. 1 hour until Ben and Brian came. My mom was still awake, and my younger brother, Rob, was sleeping. My mom then walked in my room. “Max, could you please go to bed? You need your rest.” “No, I’ve got a project that I’m still working on.” “May I see it?” she asked. “No! It’s not finished.” “Fine….but don’t stay up too late.” Next she went out the door and shut it, probably upset. Time passed and it was finally 10:30 pm. Mom was asleep, and I was awake. “Bang!” I heard. It was coming from the front door. I went downstairs, and looked out the window before I came to the door.
I couldn’t tell who it was, but there were two of them. I figured it was them, so I opened the door. It was. Ben and Brian were dressed up in a soldiers’ uniform. “What are you guys— wearing?” Ben said finishing my question. “It’s a soldier’s uniform. Our dad works in the military.” That made more sense. Ben and Brian had bad grades, so it’s obvious they would end up in military school. Usually people today don’t send people there, but I guess that’s not entirely true.
“We’ll be in your woods,” Brian said, running off. Ben followed, then so did I. My backyard was far back from my house, so it took about 2 minutes or so to get to the woods. I hated the woods. Ever since I was little they have frightened me, and there was one reason which was something unordinary catching us. It sounds dumb, but it’s just how I feel. “You have the flashlight?” Ben asked. “Uh…no,” replied his brother. “Do you?” asked Ben to me. “Nope, I’ll go back in the house to get one.” “Hurry up!” Brian shouted as I left. I ran all the way back to my house and into my room. I looked around. No flashlight. I saw a bump on my bed, under the covers.
I threw the covers off the bed. It wasn’t the flashlight, it was…the book. I froze, scared of seeing it again. I thought it was cursed, it kept showing up. I noticed the flashlight next to it. I grabbed the flashlight, and ran as fast as I could, feeling scared. I ran so fast, before I knew it, I was already back at the woods. When I ran back, I didn’t notice a page in the book had become filled with words. “I got the flashlight.” “Good, now let’s start moving, we can’t waste any more time,” said Brian annoyed. We started going into the woods, but we didn’t find anything. It was 1:00 a.m. by the time we realized our searching was pointless. “There’s nothing here, let’s go back,” I said, hoping they would agree.
“No, it has to be here,” Brian said. “What has to be here?” I asked. “Anything, the note said there was something here.” “Good point,” I acknowledged. “So this is the woods?” Ben asked. “Pretty big,” he added. “Yeah why do you think I never go here?” “Well I know I would, this place seems interesting.” Brian said, acting for the first time happy. The woods to me looked deadly as a person jumping over 50 cars with one hand on a motorcycle. To them, it probably looked like a jungle. The woods had a lot of leaves, but not many animals, and it was completely abandoned. There were so many trees surrounding me that I thought I would get lost.
It was still hard to see, even with a flashlight. We didn’t find anything really. Just some weird shaped trees and a lake with an X shape. We thought the lake could be suspicious, but it was very unlikely for it to be want we wanted. Eventually, we got tired. “Let’s go home,” I asked hoping so much that they would agree.
“Are you kidding? There has to be something.” There was Brian again, being his usual un-happy self as he said that. “ARRRRRGGGGGHRUFF!” “What was that?!” I asked frightened. “Uh…look..behind..” Ben couldn’t finish his sentence as he was scared as anyone else would be because… behind us was a wolf. But this wasn’t an ordinary wolf. It had that same red demon eyes that the other person had. I thought I was just going crazy, but I’m not sure Ben would act that scared since his dad was in the military.
“His eyes…” Brian said, pointing at the wolf. Another one was there too. It had the same red eyes. The wolves had very sharp teeth as drool came down their mouths. There claws were very long. I thought it didn’t look like a wolf , it looked like a demon creature of some sort. “RUN!!!” I shouted. Seeing these things always made me scared, so I ran off. Ben and Brian, unfortunately, were still frozen.
The wolves came going closer and Ben and Brian kept trying to move. I think the wolves were amused, and I saw this, because I didn’t really run, I just hid behind a tree, but the weird thing was, I didn’t know why. I was afraid of these things, but it was like my inside wasn’t. I was confused as the wolves kept moving. The wolves stalked closer. Ben and Brian still couldn’t move their bodies.
My heart beat was pounding fast as I stared into their eyes. Then, the wolves ran. This time, Ben and Brian were able to move their bodies and started to run. But it was useless. “AGGGH!!!” Ben and Brian both shouted in pain. They got bitten. I came over to them, but right before I did, in that little period of time, I noticed their eyes turned red for a second. I thought it meant they were possessed but the red faded away so I figured it didn’t posses them. Hopefully, I was right.
“You guys ok?” I asked, very worried of them turning into monsters. I was certain that these were my only friends, and I couldn’t bear to lose them, but then again, this bite had to mean something. “Yeah, oww. This thing is killing me. Let’s head back, PLEASE?” Brian said. It was amazing, Brian saying that. He’s just one of those guys where you don’t expect any emotions from them. “I’d be glad to.” I grinned. It was the first thing I wanted to hear from someone. Ben and Brian left my house. So I was pretty much tired for the rest of the night, but I couldn’t get to sleep, as I was wondering about the last few days. Ever since that dream, I thought. I noticed the book again. This time, I was curious, I knew there was no way out of this, especially since my friends got hurt.
I opened the book slowly, and noticed there was a bookmark. It wasn’t there before…, I thought. The page I first opened to was blank. So I flipped through the pages to where the bookmark was. I saw….words. I knew this book was magical before, but now it had words?!?! This was getting crazy. I read it slowly, trying to figure out what it meant. “The two that will be bitten are the servants of the Chosen, and will be made into the leaders of our world,—“ That was it. “Come on there has to be more!” I shouted, hoping my mom wouldn’t hear that.
She didn’t. My mom wasn’t a heavy sleeper, so I was surprised I didn’t wake her. Anyways, the words scared me as it sounded like the two were my friends that were bitten, and I was like this “Chosen” guy because all of the weird things that had happened. But it still didn’t mean it was talking about me. It didn’t say what bit them, plus, Ben and Brian were not my servants. I knew that for a fact because I considered myself the weakest one.
I finally fell asleep. In my dream I was running, cold, and afraid. “You can’t escape from us, for I am the closest one to you, and you can’t see, that I…just might…BE YOU!” Those words were shouted in a deeper voice, so I didn’t think it was me. But I woke up after that, my heart beating fast, and gasping. It was scarier than anything I’ve seen in the movies. I looked at my clock. 8:00 a.m., relieved that I wouldn’t get detention. This time, I made the bus, but another odd thing was, Ben and Brian did too.
Brian and Ben had open seats, so I decided to sit next to Ben. Brian gave me the chills, since he wasn’t very emotional, so I sat next to Ben, not being afraid whatsoever. As the bus ride moved on, none of us spoke because we were terrified to talk about what happened. I noticed that they had some of those things you wrap a bruise with on their bite that they got from the demon wolves. I felt bad putting them in danger, but I was still frightened from my dream, and that’s what kept me so quiet. I was terrified of my dream, they were scared of the wolves.
It was pathetic to be more scared over a dream then seeing two wolves biting my closest friends right in front of me while I hid behind a tree. But who could blame me? If they had the same dream, I’m pretty sure they would be more scared about the dream too. The bus finally stopped, but I noticed we weren’t at school. The bus driver stood up and turned to us. “I’m sorry but the bus has broke down, we aren’t that far from school, and its Springtime, so please get out and walk. If your house is near here, get a parent to drive, I need to fix this for the time being.”
I was mad, but it wasn’t his fault. I was mad because so many strange things were happening, and I didn’t want anything strange to happen on my walk, like seeing a man with red eyes again. Unfortunately, as I walked, I did see one. “Did you guys see that?” I asked Ben. “Yeah, Brian did too, we noticed one in the same spot last night while we were walking home.”
“Did you guys see that?” I asked another boy. “See what?” he asked. “The guy with the red eyes.” “No. What are you? Three? Or are you blind? No one sees people with red eyes, get your eyes checked!” Then I realized it was me, Ben and Brian who could only see these guys. I didn’t understand why Ben and Brian could see them, but I think it was because they got bit. I was wondering if that was a good thing though.
We finally arrived at school, 5 minutes late. But the teachers weren’t mad since they found out what happened. I was glad that I didn’t get in trouble, since I had been getting in trouble in the past few days. First period went by fast. Then Second. Then Third. Finally, recess came, which I didn’t really enjoy anymore since there was nothing to do. That’s when I noticed Terrance talking to Ben and Brian. It was strange seeing them together, so I walked over.
“What’s going on?” I asked. “Are you picking on Ben and Brian?” There I was, acting all tough and strong, still not knowing a word what I said nor meant. “Actually, these two and I have something to tell you,” said Terrance. “And what is that?” I asked. “Those strange things that have been happening to you, you’re not alone.” Terrance, Ben, and Brian showed their hands. I noticed their palm had a diamond thing.
“The reason you didn’t see this on our palms being there before, is because it happened right when we got bit,” said Brian. He actually sounded happy for once, and so was I, not feeling alone in this mystery, this was amazing.
“Terrance, you…?” I was shocked that Terrance was a “Chosen” or something. “Yeah, the reason why I didn’t get those stitches, was because I heal fast. And the reason why I didn’t tell on you, is because I didn’t want you to get in any trouble since you were like me.” “That makes sense,” I said sarcastically. I was lost here, I felt so new. It was the feeling you get when you move to a different school and people stare at you, I’ve experienced both of those in my life about two times each. One was when I moved to a different school and I just started 1st grade. Everyone was staring at me like an outcast. And the other time I moved, people stared at me the same way, but that time I wasn’t freaked out by how they reacted.
“So Terrance, what power do I have?” I asked, feeling dumb. “You…I’m not sure. I know you have the power of strength but I’m not positive if you have anything else.” “By the way, we are called “Dorns.” Added Ben. “Dorns?” I sounded unconvinced. “Yes, Dorns, I know it is odd, but it comes from the leader of the new world, Doron. “New world?” I asked. “No one knows what it’s called, but it is like an underworld of our world, very similar but these were only rumors.” “So there is a society or something?”
“There was, but they all got wiped out, from the Carrier, which was the person who was suppose to stop creatures, known as Zins. The Carrier was the “Chosen” and was to save our world, and people knew it was him because he had the book that told him what to do, but some evil overwhelmed him, making him turn into the leader of the Zins, and he started to gain every power there was, and destroyed us all, there is no one left of this disaster, for there was only one person who wrote it down in the same book the Carrier had, hoping that one day, someone would find the book and use it for the right deeds, he was the only survivor, but no one knows where he lives now.” Terrance sounded like a genius about these things, Zins and Dorns. It sounded odd since it was something I wasn’t familiar with.
“What is the name Zin related to?” I asked. “The Carrier, his name was Xam, but it sounded odd, so they changed it to Zin for some reason.” “I think we should make a society!” Ben shouted, excited and sounding dumb at the same time. “There’s only 3 people in our group, it sounds dumb.” Brian said. “I think it would be interesting,” both Terrance and I said.
“Ok fine, but what are we going to name it?” Brian was annoyed by all of this. It was obvious he just wanted to stay invisible for the rest of his life, not take part in anything interesting. “Dorzins, relate to both Dorns and Zins of the new world.” Terrance suggested. “Sounds fine to me,” I said. “Yeah, cool!” shouted Ben, still acting very excited.
“Sounds boring, but whatever.” I was getting angry at Brian. Just hearing him act so rude got me mad, but I held my anger back.
“So it is told, the society that will bring the New World’s creatures to an end, is here. We are, Dorns, protectors of our world, and all of mankind.”
How Terrance said that sounded like it was a start of a long speech, but he was finished. Ben wasn’t as happy this time. He looked at his bite. He probably wondered if this bite was a good thing or a bad thing. I wondered the same thing, but ignored it as the bell rang. The classes again went by quickly as I was thinking of what we would do as a society. But this, was a proud moment.

Chapter 3: Ronald Milberry’s house

It was ten seconds for school. When school had ended I walked home. I still had an urge that a Zin was going to see me again but I realized they had never did anything bad to me the last time I walked. Yet, I still feared them. Just the thought… Maybe they had some sort of power that made me feel this way. Maybe I was just scared. Either way, I would not be glad if I saw them. After the train of thought that I was going to see a Zin, I then thought about this new society. What was it? What would we do? How? These questions were all jumbled in my head and were about to burst if they wouldn’t get an answer.
The new society was suppose to stop Zins from hurting us right? No one could see them, nor did they hurt often it seemed. I didn’t get why they were a danger if they didn’t hurt a human. But had they hurt a human? I thought I should ask Terrance about that. Then, I heard a noise. It was like an explosion, loud. I knew right away where it came from. Milberry’s house. A couple of years ago, a person named Ronald Milberry had bought the most scariest house on Earth. At the time, it wasn’t scary at all. It was a nice, big house. A mansion actually. It didn’t seem like it if you went inside back then though. It didn’t have a porch outside. It had only one bedroom, and everything else was a hall.
No kitchen, no bathroom. It didn’t make any sense at all to me. The windows were clenched so tight, that if you tried to open them, it would be like lifting a 40 pound bag of cat litter, maybe even worse. It was dusty too, people say it could’ve been haunted. I didn’t believe that nonsense. But what had been happening over the past few days, anything was possible. Heck, you could see a man jumping out of a window then start flying. People also heard that there was secret entrances that led to a strange place. A strange place? Seriously, if you went through a hidden door, you’ll just find another side with a dead corpse on the ground. This wasn’t even the scary part. Ronald Milberry moved there because of a city dare. It sounded stupid, but this guy named Herald Kornslock gathered the city and asked if anyone was brave to go and investigate the place. And as far as I knew at the time, it did sound very stupid. It sounded like it was coming out of a bad film. But I didn’t hear anything bad about the house at the time. That’s why I thought it was stupid. It was when rumors started was when I started wondering why anyone in the right mind do anything crazy like that!
Here comes the real scary part. Ronald Milberry never came out once he came in. All you ever hear is huge explosions from his house. People went in the house worrying what ever happened to the man. Unfortunately, they never came out either. It was odd to me because I never heard of anything like this! Think of it. Some people come in to some guy’s house, and then never come out? I had to admit that was freaky! Maybe I should get a look at what he’s doing… I thought. After all, I had some superhuman strength right? I couldn’t let my fear overcome myself. Maybe this guy had something to do with Zins and Dorns. No, I thought. It’s too risky. I paused. Then I thought again. This is my only chance to finding something out! But how? There was a huge fence in front of Ronald’s house. Climb it? I looked at the fence again and noticed barb wire. No, I would kill myself. Hmm… I paused. Then it came to me and I snapped my fingers. My strength! It could knock down the fence! But would I be able to use my strength without getting mad? I curled up my hands into a fist and looked at my fingers. I squeezed tighter and heard them make a big crack.
Seems strong enough, I thought. I moved my arm behind my ribs getting ready to use the strength when I moved them forward. Wait for it, wait for it… NOW! I moved my arm and slammed it at the fence. It crushed into small pieces as it fell apart. The barb wire fell to the ground and shocked the grass. The grass was dying and turned black. Poor grass. But I couldn’t waste my time on worrying about grass dying. I looked in front of me and started walking towards the door. I walked up to it and turned the knob. Open? Yes, it was. I turned the knob some more and the door made that creepy “squeeeeeeak!” sound. Before I went through the door, I took a peak by moving my head in a little. It was dark. I couldn’t see a thing. Since I had my backpack, I wondered if I put my flashlight I used from the woods last night in there.
I took the backpack off my shoulder and went to lay it down. I zipped open the main pouch and searched through. Ah ha! It was there! Thank God, I would’ve been frightened without it. I looked through my backpack again seeing if I needed anything more. Again there was—The book. I sighed looking at it and grabbed it with me. If there was anything strange going to happen while I was in there, I must as well bring something strange of my own.
I then zipped the bag close and put it back on my shoulder. I opened the door more and then took a step, slowly, inside. “Hello?” I shouted. No answer. It was expected. If you were the crazy old mans house and made explosions coming from the same place, you probably wouldn’t answer. I didn’t care though, all I said “hello” for was to see if there was anyone else here. I turned the flashlight on as the click noise was made. I searched around the house and all I saw was an empty hallway that had black and white tiles, and some dust. I then saw a light coming from the stairway.
“Hello?” I shouted again. No answer. I wondered if I should stay down here and look for anything suspicious or jump to conclusions and think that there is only important things upstairs. I looked around one more time. I noticed a cloth covering something. I looked at it suspiciously. This really seemed like a horror movie. But in horror movies, when you reveal the cloth over something, it’s usually not as scary as what you think it would be. I told myself this wasn’t a movie and that fantasy had already come to life with the Zins and Dorns. I was all so upset and worried. Why me?! I was happy with my life! I want no part in this! But was I happy? Did I want a part in this? My head felt like it was playing tons of tricks on me and this was all some bad dream. But I paused and came to a decision. I do want a part in this, and that’s why I’m going to take that cloth off! I ran towards the cloth, and took it off quickly.
It was—!!! I gasped loudly and dropped my flashlight. A dead corpse. This wasn’t any dead corpse though, I looked at its fingers. I saw a ring. This ring was no ordinary one, it was the one my mother gave my father when they got married. I knew, this was my father. A couple of years ago, my father was sent to investigate this place. He was also known as missing. That’s when I decided to despise this place. Stupid old Ronald had to take a city dare and get missing, I told myself every day after my dad disappeared. It was obvious now that the people didn’t just disappear, they were killed. But by what? Ronald Milberry was known as one of the kindest people in our town. My mother always told me, “Just because they seem kind, doesn’t mean they aren’t.” Now I see what she meant.
I wondered what this had to do with Zins and Dorns. This place might have its mysteries, but what did it have anything to do with me? Then I told myself, that’s why I’m here. To find out if anything is strange. I looked around to see if there was anymore dead bodies. There wasn’t. I figured I should go upstairs now. I walked near the stairs then felt a big crack. I felt like I was drowning. The thing was… I was. I was sinking into the ground. Going right through it! Quicksand? I wondered. I reached down at the ground. Yes, it was quicksand. But who in the right mind would have quicksand growing in their house?
My legs were getting deeper towards the ground. I was sinking fast, but not as fast as I would expect. I wasn’t fat, so how am I sinking slowly? Maybe it was like my book protecting me. I reached out of my bag and grabbed out the book. I noticed it flash and words appeared on a page. “The new world is sinking you in through the sand, but it will not go to the new world. As you drown into the sand, you will end not under the ground, but in a hidden place on the upper floor, there you will find—“ And again, it doesn’t finish its sentence. Now I knew for sure this place had something to do with me. I am here to find something obviously and there I was certain of that. I noticed another thing about this book too. It was writing down my every move. Like a biography about myself. The only thing was, no one was writing it. Or was there someone who was writing it? I didn’t have time to think about that. I forced myself more into the sand, trying to get all the way through.
I closed my eyes wondering what would happen as my face went through. I heard the sand make the snake slither sound as I went through. Finally, it stopped. I opened my eyes and found myself in a room of coffins. Not only that, there was a huge diamond hologram or something on one of the wardrobes. A passage? I wondered. I noticed two dead corpses standing straight up with swords crossing their chest as if they were guarding the entrance. I ignored it and started walking closer, but I was stopped.
I noticed the skeleton with the sword was moving its sword fully blocking the entrance to the wardrobe. Its eyes glowed red as well as ten other skeletons did. I noticed then it was a trap. Was the book trapping me? Maybe the Carrier, Xam was led to somewhere like this because his book told him to and made him evil. I realized the red eyes meant they were Zins. They came closer. And then— blank? Next thing I noticed I was in front of the stairways. Was it a vision with the room and quicksand? No, it was far too real. But then again, how could I end up here?
I then realized that this place had nothing what I wanted. I ran out the door and then left. But, it was again where I stopped. Would I really just walk away from something like this? And if I did, I would be no use to making a new society if I was too scared to enter a haunted house. I looked back at the door and saw some wind blow by me. I saw the wind because dust was carried with it. But one thing. How was there wind coming from the inside of a house?
That’s when I made the decision. I ran through the door and ran up the stairs standing right in front of a large, scary room that seemed to be a place for summoning something.
I then heard a voice coming from the inside. It must be Ronald Milberry, I thought. That means he didn’t disappear! He was just praying in front of a big ritual circle you only see in movies. What’s he doing? I wondered. I then thought of an old movie, I couldn’t remember the name but I remembered there was a person who was possessed by something and was saying odd words creating a creature to lurk out from the ground. Was Ronald possessed? And if so, how long? If he had been possessed, why was it taking so long for him to summon whatever?
Usually, it wouldn’t take long in a story. But I knew this was real life and in the real world, it obviously takes more than just two years to summon whatever you are summoning. But maybe he was just praying. A way for hope. Maybe this place trapped him, and he was praying for a way to get out. But that wouldn’t explain the ritual circle. I wonder…
It wasn’t for summoning, it was a portal! I remember that Terrance had mentioned the New World was not able to find. Was this guy trying to make an entrance to the New World? Was he a Dorn? I walked in the room quietly, hoping that he wouldn’t hear me. “Ronald?” I whispered. No answer. All I heard was words of some sort praying. I touched his shoulder and flipped him around. “What the—?” I noticed it was a dead body. Wait a minute, I thought. If he wasn’t praying… who was?!? I heard someone come up from behind me and then blank. Next thing I knew I was at home in my bed.
Was it a dream? I wondered. There was only way to find out, the book. I looked for my backpack and found it standing next to the bed. I opened it up and grabbed out the book, then turned to the page.
It wasn’t a dream. I noticed the page having the same words there was earlier. But if it wasn’t, how did I get here? How did I get out? I ran over what happened in my head. So there was a decoy of some sort and then something hit me? It must’ve been that. But how did I end up here though? My mom broke my train of thought as she entered my room. She was mad. I could tell by her eyes that she was furious beyond belief. “What the heck were you doing?! Sleeping on the sidewalk? What’s wrong with you!?” That answered part of my question. It seems as if I was knocked out and was laying on the sidewalk when my mom found me and took me home.
“I was tired. I stayed out late last night while you were asleep…” My mom’s face started turning bright red. Before I knew it, she would have steam coming out of her ears. “You snuck out of the house while I was sleeping?” she shouted at me. “Yeah, Ben and Brian called me and—“ “Ben and Brian? I hate those kids. Ever since you met them you’ve been so rude and all,” she interrupted. “You don’t understand!” I argued. “They found out something important for the project I’m doing that might get us a better grade!” My mom sighed. “Fine, I highly doubt what you’re saying is true… But I leave you with a warning. Just don’t do it again!” she yelled. “OK,” I said and then she left.
When she left, I wondered…who knocked me out? Ronald Milberry? What was he doing? And my dad…what exactly happened to him? He was the only dead corpse that didn’t move. Was he a Dorn? Did he find out to much information about something so they had to kill him? No. This is all crazy. I put my head on my pillow and sighed. Just relax. You’re not alone and Terrance knows answers. But then again, could I trust anyone? I could be lead into a trap. When Ben and Brian got bit, they could’ve been possessed and then they possessed Terrance. This could all be a trick to get me to trust them.
I knew what I had to do. For my own sake, I would have to be more careful around them and catch anything suspicious. I am willing to kill them if they were my enemies. I was no longer safe, and could not trust anyone. It is for the best, I thought. Then I heard the phone ring.

“Max! It’s Ben and Brian! Pick up the phone!” my mom shouted. I picked up the phone and told my mom “You can get off now.” I heard the click and knew she had got off the phone. “Hello?” I said. “Hey Max! Dude, where are you? Our society meeting started ten minutes ago! Hurry up!” It was Ben talking, even though the voice sounded similar to Brian’s. Ben is the worrier, so I knew it was him. I hung up the phone then grabbed my backpack.
I rushed down the stairs and opened the door. “You going to Ben and Brian’s house?” my mom asked, stopping me from leaving. “Actually, I’m going to Terrance’s house. He’s my partner for this project and Ben and Brian are too. We decided to go to his house because his computer was better.” “Fine, but don’t be gone to long. I don’t want to find you lying on the sidewalk again.” “I won’t mom, I promise.
I left after that. The good thing was that Terrance’s house was a few doors down, so I didn’t have to worry about seeing something strange for a long time. I wonder what they found. I went over my head the possibilities that they could have and it made me think of my book. Does my book have any more answers? I opened my bag and took out the book. I looked through every page carefully. No. There wasn’t anything new.
I finally arrived at Terrance’s porch, wondering what I would say. I know. My story! I had many questions that I wanted answers from when I was at Ronald’s house. I went over in my head how I would say it before I came in. Finally, I was confident on what I would say and rang the doorbell. It opened…slowly.

Chapter 4: Betrayal

The door squeaked as it opened up. I noticed myself looking at a creature with red eyes, and I quickly turned away, starting to run off. “Wait!” someone shouted. I stopped. I turned slowly as I saw Terrance coming from the door. “Come in,” he nodded and started walking back up his stairs. I walked closer to the door, and went in.
I looked around and found myself staring into a Zin. It was a girl too. She was quiet, looked frightened. Then as the silence broke, Terrance was walking back down the stairs. “It’s ok, he’s a friend.” The Zin walked up to me and shook my hand, then it left. “What was that? A zin?” I asked. Terrance looked insulted as he faced his head down. “That’s my mom. She was turned into a Zin years ago. She’s a friendly Zin though.” “So she’s basically a Dorn?” “No! Not at all. Dorn’s don’t have red eyes and Zins don’t have the ability to talk.”
“Then how do you talk to your mom?” I asked, wondering how he could understand such a creature. “Well, she can understand English, but she doesn’t have the ability to speak it. She uses sign language so we can communicate instead.” I repeated the answer in my head trying to make sense out of it. “Why can’t she speak it?” “Well, you see, they don’t have a mouth. Didn’t you notice?” He tried to remember what the mother Zin looked like, and remembered there was no mouth.
“Oh, ok. So is Ben and Brian over?” I asked, changing the subject of all this confusion. “Yeah, they’re upstairs in my— he got closer to me and whispered, “Secret passage.” Since Terrance was so quiet, I wondered if that meant his mother did not know about it. “Follow me.” He moved his head right showing me the way to go. We raced upstairs, to the left, and into his room. He went close to the wall and knocked on it. A knocking came back. “Dorn,” said Terrance and the wall had a slight entering to step in.
He went in and so did I. The room was huge! And boy, did I mind huge. The room was dirty with dust bunnies and had so many books. The books looked ancient, like the ones you see at a library that’s been abandoned for a hundred years. There I saw a big table looking that it would be for a meeting or some council meeting with each other. There I saw Ben and Brian, writing down something on a piece a paper with a feather. Wait, a feather? Why on earth would they be using a feather? I saw Ben move up his head and stared into my eyes and grinned. “Max! You’re here! Grab a seat, we are trying to think of some places where a passage to the new world would be!” “Ok. Why are you using a feather?” I wondered. I walked towards them and grabbed a seat next to Brian. I didn’t get an answer so I asked Ben again. “Why are you using a feather?” He looked to me and said, “There was nothing else we could use.”
“Oh, ok. Seems hard to use that feather isn’t it?” I asked. This time, Brian answered. “It’s hard at first. If you have enough ink, it’s fine.” “Interesting.” I looked around to see where Terrance wandered off to. I noticed him near a trunk, trying to grab something. I watched how long it took, and after a couple of minutes, he came back holding a book in his hand. He slammed the book onto the table and took a seat. “What’s that?” I asked. He looked to me and gave a snotty look.
“I’ll tell you once we think of a good place that the passage to the new world might be.”
Right then I thought of Ron Milberry’s house. “I know a place!” I blurted out. Ben and Brain dropped their feather and started to stare at me. Terrance did the same. Oh great, just like the times where I had to move and everyone stared at me, I thought. “Where would that be?” Terrance asked, very curious. Then I remembered about what I thought earlier. Could I trust Terrance? He surely seems like he abused his abilities. And Ben and Brian haven’t been acting themselves ever since that bite. I finally came to a decision.
“No.” I answered.
“What did you say?” Terrance said, looking madder than ever. His face turned bright red. I thought it was going to explode! It seemed as if steam was coming out of his ears. “I said no. How do I know you’re not a Zin? After all, your mother is one. “Don’t talk to my mother like that!” Terrance snarled. “What are you going to do? I have the power of strength remember?” I said, bravely. Although I had no idea what I was doing. I was losing my once chance to figure out where this passage lead. But there was no way I could trust someone like Terrance.
“That’s it. Get out of here. Now!” Terrance was shouting his lungs off. “Fine. See you Ben, see you Brian! I’m out of here!” I grabbed my backpack and stomped off. As I exited the doorway, a wall closed down behind me. I ignored it and kept walking. Finally I reached the door. Good thing that mother Zin didn’t show up, I thought and I walked out the door.
I blew it! I had a perfect chance to figure out how to use my ability and the history. I had the chance of making three friends! All I did was say, “See you! I quit!” I thought over in my head how much I would regret not learning the history of my ability. But what did I care? I just wanted a perfect, normal and simple life. But did I? My head starting aching. Should I go back to Terrance, or should I go? The same question ran in my head so many times, I thought I was going to die of confusion. I just need some sleep, I thought. But wait, if I slept, I would probably have a dream about this again! Well, first thing is first, head back home. Finally, after five minutes, I reached my house. I opened the door and pranced upstairs. I went to lay back on my bed and close my eyes. Before I knew it, it was nighttime. “Maybe I should go back. To say sorry,” I whispered to myself. I got out of bed and walked downstairs.
I put my shoes on, and opened the door slowly. It had a loud squeak, but it was soft enough that no one upstairs like my mom would hear it. When I stepped out the door, the whole area surrounded me in darkness. It was creepy, being in the dark alone, at night. I quivered a little thinking about it. Then I remembered something. He wanted me out. Besides, I could tell him tomorrow at school. This is a dumb idea. I turned around and looked at the woods. The woods. Maybe I’ll find something there! After all, something in the woods did happen before.
Ok, I thought. I’ll check the woods to see if there is anything suspicious, then go back home. I made my every move careful as I was walking towards the woods, making sure no animals heard me. Before I knew it, I was in the woods. I looked around and all I saw was dirt, leaves, and very tall trees. I kept walking.
Then I did notice something. The lake with the X sign. I remembered seeing it when I was checking out the woods with Ben and Brian, and thought it was nothing. I walked closer to the lake, being careful. Unfortunately, I wasn’t careful enough. My foot got cut by a knife hanging by a rope. I started bleeding a lot, looking at the scrape the knife gave me. “Aggghh!!” I shouted, but I covered my mouth quickly so nothing else could hear me. I took one more step and then the next thing I knew, a rope circled around my shoe and lifted me up. The blood through my head was raising… slowly. Next thing I knew I was knocked out. I found myself waking up, still nighttime. Where am I? I asked myself. Then I remembered. I got caught in one of those pranks where they get you by the leg and you end up hanging from a tree. Most of all, I was in the woods. I looked around the area, looking for something that could cut me loose.
Right there I saw the knife lying on the floor. If I only I could reach! I thought. I then came up in my mind another way I could probably escape. If I reach the tied part of the rope, I could unloosen it. Only problem is, I fall. But it’s better than nothing, I thought. So I tried reaching for the rope.
Dang it! It’s too high! I just let my head down and started to take a couple of breaths. Relax, I told myself. But how could I? I didn’t answer that question as a heard growling in the distance. Next, I noticed there was a gathering of four gray creatures, hopping around like a gorilla. Red eyes, sharp teeth, sharp claws. No doubt, they were Zins.
But one of them wasn’t just any Zin. I took a closer look at one of the Zins. Yup, I was right. It was Terrance’s mom! But why? What would she be doing here, with other Zins? Finally, I stopped hearing the noise. But unfortunately, all they did was just come closer to me. I couldn’t understand a word they were saying. “Doshe? Jeja kolen dos kiacia?” was all that I could hear. I thought Terrance said they couldn’t talk! Or maybe he meant they didn’t like to talk. Either way, I was going to die.
The Zins were now right below me, looking like they were about to eat me if I dropped. Great, I thought. Five Zins are surrounding me from the ground so there is no way I can escape. I sighed. Wait, did I forget something?! I’m super strong! But was that enough? A second later I looked at my wound to find it healing itself. Wait… Isn’t healing Terrance’s power? The Carrier has all abilities, came back in my head. The Carrier was called the Carrier because he had a book. Max thought again. I have a book. I have more than one power. Could that mean I was this Carrier?
A screeching sound came over the whole area and the Zins ears started to bleed. The next thing I knew, a knife was thrown at the rope, cutting the rope and letting me free. I found myself looking at Terrance, Ben, and Brian. I didn’t bother asking questions so I ran away with them.
It took no time to run out the Zins as we stopped in front of my house. Terrance and I were panicking. “We’re safe now! Just stay quiet!” shouted Terrance. I rolled my eyes. Like you’re any quieter! I thought. I took a peek at the woods again to see if there was anything there. Oh there was! There was alright! And this time, I was sure there was more than just five Zins. There was like hundreds! I turned my head back behind the house, hoping they didn’t see me.
“What’d you see?” asked Brian. “Hundreds…Zins…so…many!!!” I couldn’t even bare to say those words. I was so frightened, I thought I might as well just die. But if I was this Carrier, I had to make a difference in the world. I couldn’t be the coward who let people do the work for me that I’m suppose to do!
I walked farther away from the house, leaving a perfect area for the Zins to see me. “Hey Zins! I’m over here!” I could hear Ben and Brian whispering to each other, “What the hell is he doing?!? TRYING to get us killed?” The zins turned their head and looked at me. Then they started running like a gorilla as fast as they could with their fangs open. I blocked my face as they came closer. Silence. No blood? No danger? No nothing? I took my hands off my face and found myself inside something like a force field. The Zins were crashing into the field, trying to attack me. But they couldn’t. I was protected. A couple of the Zins died from crashing into the force field. Eventually, they all got tired and just left. The force field then faded away. No one hurt. Everyone alive. What had just happened?
I saved Terrance, Ben, and Brian and they had saved me. They risked their lives for me. How could I not trust them now?! I turned around and faced them. Terrance’s were in shock. “You’re…you’re…THE CARRIER!” he shouted. He then crouched down on his knees and started bowing.
“Get up,” I said. “I’m no Carrier. You saved my life.” “You saved us too!” protested Ben. “That was different. You guys risked your lives, knowing what to do. I on the other hand, just gave it all I got.”
“How did you find me anyways?” I asked, trying to change the whole saving the lives incident. “We tried going to your house. I was going to apologize for how mean I was. Then I found out you weren’t there. And I was there in time to see that you were entering the woods.”
“So you were following me! I knew I heard something!” I broke out laughing, relieved it wasn’t just my imagination. They started laughing as well. Then I took a big yawn. “Tired, aren’t you?” asked Brian. “Yeah, hey I’ll see you guys tomorrow, ok? You know…at school and all. See you guys!” I ran back to the front door of my house and watched them walk away.
How could I have ever betrayed them? They just saved my lives. I put my head on my pillow and laid down. Everything is going to work out, I told myself. Then I heard a bang. A big thump on the floor. I took my head off my pillow and rose up. I noticed to see the book on the floor. I sighed.
I got off my bed and picked it up. Then I went back on my bed. I noticed the bookmark again in another spot. I opened to the page. “The Carrier’s destiny has awaken. “Be warned Carrier, danger is closer than you can ever imagine. Whatever you do, do not—“ Blank. Nothing Else.
So I am the carrier, I thought. I grinned and put the book on my counter. Me. I was the Carrier. Look out world, Max Conway is going to save your lives!
